Smog Check Service
RV, Truck & Minivan Smog Check in Sacramento
Larger vehicles are welcome. We test RVs, trucks and minivans in addition to passenger cars.
Which larger vehicles need a smog check?
It depends on the fuel type, model year and weight. Per the state's Smog Check Reference Guide:
- Gasoline-powered vehicles from 1976 model year and newer are covered, and 1975 and older are exempt.
- Diesel vehicles from 1998 model year and newer with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 14,000 lbs or less are covered. Diesels of 1997 and older, or with a GVWR of 14,001 lbs or more, are exempt.
- Newer vehicles are exempt from the regular biennial test for their first several model years.
The GVWR is printed on the sticker inside your driver's door jamb, so you can check it before you drive over. If you aren't sure, call us and we'll help you figure it out.
Minivans, pickups and cargo vans
Most minivans, pickups and full-size vans are tested just like any other vehicle in the same fuel and model-year group. Bigger vehicles can take a little more bay time, so on a busy Saturday it's worth calling ahead to check the wait.
RVs and motorhomes
Whether a motorhome needs a test depends on its fuel type, model year and weight rating, and whether your renewal notice from the state says a test is due. We can check with you over the phone before you make the trip.
