Smog Check Service
Out-of-State Smog Check in Sacramento
Bringing a vehicle into California from another state? We handle the out-of-state smog inspection the state requires, and we can usually get you in and out quickly.
Does my out-of-state car need a smog check?
Per the state's Smog Check Reference Guide, a smog check is required for 1976 and newer model-year vehicles that are being brought into California for the first time. Gasoline, flex-fuel and hybrid vehicles are included. Diesel vehicles follow their own rules: 1998 and newer diesels with a gross vehicle weight rating of 14,000 lbs or less are covered, while 1997 and older diesels are exempt.
Because the details depend on your specific vehicle, it's worth a quick call if you aren't sure.
What to have ready
- The vehicle itself, driven to the station.
- Your keys, and any paperwork you were given about the vehicle's move to California.
- A working vehicle with no active check-engine light. An active warning light can cause a failed test.
Why come to a STAR-certified station?
Smog Bros is a STAR-certified station. STAR stations can test every vehicle type, including directed vehicles and gross polluters, so if your car turns out to need more than a basic test, you won't have to be sent somewhere else.
